Abstract

This proposal aims to investigate the impact of the avant-garde actions inside the São Paulo's sociocultural space during the 30's. Flávio de Carvalho, one of the period's great icons and subject of this analysis, performed, in 1931, an intervention against the catholic's sectors of São Paulo's society. For not removing his cap, walking in the opposite sense and flirting with several women of a great Corpus Christi procession on the center of São Paulo, the artists, in addition of being arrested, was nearly lynched. The publication of the work named A Experiência nº 2 - Realizada sobre uma procissão de Corpus Christi on the same year, consisted of one form representation of this conflict, as well as some reports from the period's newspapers, which will be used on this study. So, this research aims to identify, on those documents, the different ways of representing the conflict, considering both the artist's narrative and the repercussion of his intervention by the São Paulo's press. Understand the historical importance of the artist to the city and the reactions of segments of society which reacted against Flávio de Carvalho's actions are the main goals of this project.(AU)
