Abstract Nonlinear tools for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) are still not yet well developed. Thus, recent studies have shown the need to incorporate nonlinear techniques for SHM applications. In this sense, the present proposal aims the study and application of methods for damage detection and quantification in structures with local nonlinearities. Damage will be simulated in benchmark mechanical systems through the changes of nonlinear located parameters of the structure. Initially a nonlinear prediction will be applied using Volterra models expanded with Kautz filter with multiple poles for reaching to detect structural damages by comparing prediction errors with the values of a reference structure in healthy condition. If the damages are detected, a further procedure of nonlinear model updating based in the Volterra kernels will be applied to estimate the damage as modifications of the parameters of the motion equation of the mechanical system. The advantages and drawbacks of these approaches will be illustrated for the application in nonlinear mechanical structures. Further studies in this area will be discussed and proposed reaching practical applications in the industry in the final of the present project. | |
