Abstract

This project aims to study the most likely path of protons in an inhomogeneous material medium. This path will be simulated by using two codes based on Monte Carlo method (SRIM and MCNPX). We will evaluate the distortion produced in monoenergetic beams of protons after traversing heterogeneous materials with density variations, taking into account inelastic nuclear interaction processes and for proton pencil beam scanning. This work will support the development of a proton tomography (PCT), to assist in developing methods for accurate determination of the trajectory of the proton, which is essential for the reconstruction of the image.
