Abstract

The alarming increase in the incidence of chronic diseases in the last two decades can not be explained solely by genetic factors and the lifestyle. There is considerable current evidence, that an insult occurred at a critical period of development (gestation / lactation) can strongly influence the risk of developing such diseases in adulthood, this process is known as metabolic programming. Despite the increased consumption of refined sugar and fructose to be sharp and correlate positively with the increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome, the effects of fructose intake by the mother on the health of the offspring are unknown. Thus, the objective of this project is to study the effects of fructose consumption during pregnancy and / or lactation on the postnatal life in relation to metabolic changes, gene expression and feeding behavior in male rats. Will be used male rats of the strain Sprague-Dawley rats, sacrificed on the 15th, 20th and 90th days of postnatal life, from mothers fed with control diet and mothers fed diet rich in fructose (60%), during (i) gestation, (ii) and lactation (iii) pregnancy and lactation. Will be analyzed at the end of the experiment the following parameters: biometrics, feed intake, metabolic, histological and gene expression related to eating behavior and the production and insulin signaling. The results of this study allow a better understanding of the effects of fructose consumption during pregnancy and / or lactation on the health of adult offspring.
