Abstract

In Brazilian XXI century literature, violent men characters occupy a significant position. How are these men represented? Are there convergences between the violent men descriptions as they appear in the works of different authors? This is the key question of this research that will take place in the context of the "Interdisciplinary Project in Violence, Democracy and Rights of the Center for the Study of Violence", under the general coordination of Sergio Adorno, financed by the pro-rector's office for research at USP (Sao Paulo University) from 2011 to 2013, in which Professor Jaime Ginzburg, supervisor of the present research, participates as coordinator of the theme "Subject, Discourse and Institutions". We seek to establish original relations between forms, texts and contexts, in dialogue with contemporary critical discussion of Foucault, Agamben, Girard, Eco and others, and with the recent Brazilian production about the writing of violence. This research seeks to contribute to the discussion about the violence representation in today's Brazil, through the publication of a book of 180 -200 pages, intended to a public of professors and students in literature and humanities, and to a readership concerned by this matter (lawyers, judges, police officers and community leaders between others).
