Abstract

The main purpose of this research consists the analysis of the social reproduction strategies among rural people, that is, small rural possessors, who reside in the counties of São João das Missões (MG) and Itinga (MG). These counties are respectively located in the north and northeast region in the state of Minas Gerais and are characterized as the poorest counties economically considered in the set of all 853 of the referred state counties (FJP, 2010). Both counties detain little socioeconomic dynamism, high rates of social and material needs and most of the population residing in the rural area, developing activities considered as agricultural activities. The north and the northeast parts of the state of Minas Gerais, regions where both counties are located, are considered as a lot emblematic by the presence in the national stage as a "bag of poverty" by the figures of high incidence of poverty (economical) and by having been established as a region of "migrants' vivarium" because there was a migration of part of the rural people for the most diverse cities of Brazil as an indicator element of the process of deruralization. This research is based on two hypothesis: 1st) even the rural regions in Brazil which are less dynamic are not suffering a process of social, cultural, demographic and economical deflation; 2nd) the enlargement of social policies for poor regions considerably impacts the social and economical dynamics of rural people, making possible the emergence of new dynamics in the economies for the families which are permitted by the non-contributive incomings. These incomings added to the non-agricultural incomes interfere in the senses and meanings of space mobility, also conditioning the permanence of these people in these origin regions.
