Abstract

Motivation: digital image processing consists of a set of techniques to perform image transformations aiming at enhancing and analyzing visual information to allow automatic perception and recognition. Applying those techniques allows extracting information from images, identifying and improving the visual quality of structural features, thus facilitating the human perception and automatic interpretation by computers. However, the adequacy of computational techniques depends on the image under analysis - a technique suitable to a problem might result in unsatisfactory results for others. Goal: this project consists in developing a Web-based platform to aid image processing, allowing the direct experience of image processing techniques avoiding the end-user coding their algorithms, and without any software installation. Each technique will be implemented in components published in libraries and their application must be set up like a data stream in a web interface. Thus, the application must be described as a directed graph, where each node represents an operation (or function) and each oriented edge represents a data flow. The platform will offer the option to export/import images handled to/from other applications. Methodology: web interface must be developed in HTML and styled with CSS. The source codes of computational techniques and the images processed must be stored using the MySQL database management system. The computational techniques must be written in PHP, and also AJAX technology must be used for better interoperability of Web pages. (AU)
