Abstract

This is the first national survey on the prevalence of dermatoses referred by the population. It is expected to test the hypothesis that there is a great variety of diseases spread in the population that is not properly accounted for in the epidemiology of health services since epidemiological data are directed by the findings from patients seeking specialized dermatological care. In order to quantify the prevalence of dermatoses throughout life, especially, by investigating the presence of melasma and some clinically prevalent diseases (alopecia, onychomycosis, ingrown toenail, and acne), the complaints will be evaluated in subgroups such as gender, age, family ancestry, ethnic designation, prototype and previous consultation with a dermatologist. Therefore the authors propose an inquiry to professionals of the University Campus of Rubião Júnior. It is estimated that up to 500 individuals will be interviewed, personally and individually, based on a structured questionnaire in order to investigate the reports of previous or current dermatological diseases, as well as questions about their ethnic composition and skin behavior after prolonged exposure to sunlight without any skin protector. It will include Individuals older than 18 years, working on the premises of the Campus, regardless of job function, previously clarified and concordant to responding to the questionnaire. So as to compose the representation of different age groups, 10% of the individuals will be retired employees. From this analysis, comparisons will be made in the subgroups and a profile of the prevalence of referred dermatoses will be constructed, showing the number of skin and attachments diseases, thus enabling to dimension the specialized care. The investigation will also result in an important database of accessible individuals available for supplementary epidemiological studies.(AU)
