Abstract

The study of urban heat island effect (UHI) caused by cities have attracted an increase interest due to its consequences to the environment and human health. One approach to detect the UHI effect is through the study of phenological responses of plants growing in urban environments to local elevated temperatures. This UHI studies, traditionally conducted in temperate regions, can be a proxy of climate changes effects. The present study aims to understand whether urban heat islands influence the phenology of plants growing in a tropical city. We intent to analyze the long-term climatic time series of an urban environment in the tropics and to perform a detailed description of its land use. (AU)
