Abstract

This project aims to investigate the effect of synthetic sweat on VAT dyes released from cotton fabric. To achieve this goal we intend to evaluate the leaching degree of the indigo dye CI VAT Blue 1, from the cotton fabric, under effect of synthetic sweat. We also intend to identify and quantify the by-products and the possible structural modifications occurred due this process, using chromatographic techniques: HPLC-DAD and LC-MS/MS. These studies will be complemented by correlating chemical structure and toxicological/mutagenic results (Ames test), contributing to the understanding of allergic and metabolic important reactions of dyes in the human body.
