Abstract

Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) causes changes in the pattern of activation of masticatory muscles due to anatomical and physiological differences between individuals diagnosed and healthy subjects. This study aims to use Surface Electromyography (sEMG) to quantify these differences and examine the motor control of individuals from a different methodology applied during bilateral chewing. Thus, we justify the inclusion of SEMG in the diagnosis of TMD from the moment that their findings agree with the diagnosis found by the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorder (RDC/TMD). Objective: Using the duty factor to consider such variables, seeking to add to the current clinical practice the information obtained about the usefulness and reliability of SEMG. Methodology: the sample is composed of women aged 18 to 30 years separate group with TMD and control group according to Research Diagnostic Criteria (RDC/TDM). Will be used surface electromyography (sEMG) to record the activation of the masseter and anterior temporal and motor control of subjects during bilateral chewing for 10 seconds.(AU)
