Abstract

This project will analyze the effects of thermal treatments in the process of wood sanding. The effect of this parameter upon quality of sanded parts will be observed in two different ways. The first analysis consists in applying thermal treatments upon the parts, at different temperatures, before they are sand processed. Thus, changes that occur in the final product due to thermal treatment before the finishing process will be observed. The second analysis consists in applying the same treatment with the parts previously sanded. Thus the influence of later thermal treatments will be observed on the final product. The species to be used in this project are Corymbia Citriodora and Pinus Elliotii. The temperatures are 100°C, 120°C, 140°C, 160°C and 180°C. The process of sanding to be used will be horizontal plane sanding with cut parallel to fiber using two different species (Pinus Elliotii and Corymbia Citriodora), an abrasive material (aluminum oxide), three different granulometries of sandpaper (P80, P100 and P120) a cutting speed and specified pressure. For each condition six repetitions shall be held totalizing 360 trials. The effects of thermal treatment in the sanding process will be studied by capturing the strength and power sanding, roughness, vibration analysis, acoustic emission, dimensional variation, heating of the parts and integrity and surface quality analysis through images. The objectives proposed in this research are absolutely feasible, since all equipment, materials and resources required for wood processing are available at the Campus of UNESP in Itapeva, not requiring further investments. In addition, the candidate for the scholarship aid is an excellent student.(AU)
