Abstract

The main goal of my project is to undertake a serious investigation about the relations between Schopenhauer's aesthetics and the aesthetic ideas that were typical to the artistic-philosophical movement known as German Classicism, especially in regard to three of it's most representative figures, namely, Winckelmann, Schiller and Goethe. That goal will be pursued through: 1) a historical-factual study concerning the contacts Schopenhauer had with authors and works related to the mentioned cultural movement, aiming at the obtainment of a chronological view of those contacts; 2) a comparative study between the theoretical content of Schopenhauer's aesthetic conceptions and that presented in the works of some classicist authors that may reveal themselves to be of particular importance in this context. That study will have it's point of departure in an appreciation of the role played by the notion of form ("Form" and "Gestalt") in Schopenhauer's aesthetics, by means of which I will also be seeking to establish a connection between that meaning of form and the schopenhauerian doctrine of the platonic ideas.
