Abstract This research aims at investigating the creation of laughable situations in the play A Noite dos Palhaços Mudos (2008), performed by La Mínima, a brazilian circus and theatre company. The prizewinning play, a success amongst critics and audience, distinguishes itself for making use of pantomime - an unusual language in contemporary art - as its main comic source. The analysis will be backgrounded by studies about La Mínima, pantomime, clown and by the dialogue with the works Laughter, by Henri Bergson, On the comic and laughter, by Vladimir Propp, and Rabelais and his world, by Mikhail Bakhtin. The research procedures comprise bibliographical study, interviews, attendance at La Minima's activities, investigation of the written material about the company and analysis of the play A Noite dos Palhaços Mudos and of its recordings. | |
