Abstract We have investigated in basketball athletes the effects of adaptations resulting from the use of selective load system of periodization on autonomic modulation of heart rate variability (HRV), baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), anaerobiosis threshold (AT), endogenous stress markers, and lower limb functional capacity during training macro-cycle. Twenty-two male athletes were studied and evaluated in four specific moments of the macro-cycle (initial preparation period, P1; beginning of the 1st competition period, P2; beginning and finish of the 2nd competition period, P3 and P4 respectively). HRV was investigated in terms of frequency domain (spectral analysis of time series from R-R intervals obtained in supine position) according to the auto-regressive model. BRS was assessed by using spectral method and calculating the alpha-coefficient. Laboratorial exams were also carried out for plasma levels of catecholamine, cortisol, free testosterone, urea, and creatine kinase. Force capacity (isokinetic dynamometry) and muscle potency (force platform) were assessed to determinate the lower limb functional capacity. | |
