Abstract

The bone ridge resorption could affect the stability of conventional dentures causing displacements during chewing and may reduce the chewing ability. Few studies have evaluated the effect of the denture adhesives creams and strips in patients with the severely resorbed alveolar ridge. In addition, there are no clinical studies that prove the possible influence of the denture adhesives, when chewing is evaluated by recording the jaw movement. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of the adhesive denture products use on the masticatory performance (MP) and mandibular movement (MM) of individuals using dentures that present severely resorbed mandibular alveolar ridge. For this, 30 total edentulous volunteers will be selected (aged between 50 and 75 years). Those who meet the inclusion criteria of the research and accept to participate must sign an informed consent approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba, State University of Campinas. First will be evaluated the level of alveolar ridges resorption and later the MP and MM will be assessments. Evaluations shall be performed before and after applying the adhesive cream and strips and the sequence of use is going to be established randomly. The results collected will first be submitted to exploratory analysis of data and then will apply the appropriate statistical tests. (AU)
