Maximum bite force and masticatory capacity in individuals using conventional and implant-supported complete bimaxillary dentures: cross-sectional study.

Abstract

This is an observational, non-analytical, cross-sectional, double-blind study, with the objective of analyzing the masticatory capacity and maximum bite force in a total edentulous population rehabilitated with two types of total prosthesis. The participants of both genders (N=40) will receive an Informed Consent Form (ICF) previously approved by the Research Ethics Committee (ERC) and then subdivided into two groups. G1 (n=20) rehabilitated with conventional bimaxillary total prostheses and G2 (n=20) rehabilitated with implant-supported bimaxillary prostheses. For the evaluation of the masticatory capacity, the natural food Almond will be used, which will be submitted to 30, 40 and until the individual feels ready to swallow, the product will be sieved by multiple sieves. The measurement of the maximum bite force will be done with the aid of a gnatodinamometer. The values obtained will be submitted to statistical analysis for further interpretation and discussion.
