Abstract

The goal of this paper is study how the cerebral hemispheres of men and women extract and integrate information of spatial frequencies over time in early stages of visual processing of complex visual stimuli. For this, 60 volunteers (30 women) will participate in the experiment to be held in a single session of two steps: memorization and recognition. In the memorization phase the participant will be asked to memorize six faces. To verify if there was memorization, a series of faces (memorized and inedited) will be presented and the participant must achieve a 90% rate of correct answers. In the recognition step memorized and distractor faces will be presented randomly and lateralized (Divided Visual Field Method). Both memorized and distractor faces will be presented in low spatial frequencies (FEB), in high spatial frequencies (FEA) and unfiltered (SFE). In a recognition task, the participant will mark the confidence rating (Confidence Rating Method) in discriminating the target faces from faces he never saw. The recognition step is performed in three conditions of exposure time (50, 100 and 150 ms) for independent samples. The cumulative conditional probabilities of responses to categories of degree of certainty will be used to calculate ROC curves (Receiver Operating Characteristic). The sensitivity parameters Az and da of Signal Detection Theory will be calculated using the line regression coefficients. Complementarily, a Mixed ANOVA will test response time differences.
