Abstract

Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological condition characterized by impulsivity, disorganization, hyperactivity, and difficulty maintaining concentration. There is evidence that ADHD is more prevalent in people with heart disease and the treatment has effects on cardiovascular parameters like heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP). Objective: To characterize the autonomic modulation and anthropometric profile of children with ADHD. Method: A cross-sectional study will be conducted with 25 children aged five to 12 years, users of the Núcleo Especializado em Aprendizagem da FMABC in the period from July to December 2012. The characteristics are evaluated: weight, height, body composition, and autonomic modulation. The data are measured weight and height, respectively, by the scale and stadiometer Welmy Sanny, enabling the calculation of Body Mass Index (BMI). To evaluate the autonomic modulation of HR will be recorded at frequency meter (CX R800, Polar), systolic and diastolic BP, as observed with an aneroid sphygmomanometer (Tycos), respiratory frequency (f), observed the movement of the thorax and partial saturation of (SpO2) measured in a digital oximeter (DX2010, Dixtal). The study of the autonomic modulation is performed by analyzing levels of linear (in the time domain and frequency) and nonlinear (Poincaré plot) of heart rate variability.(AU)
