Abstract

This project has as objectives to produce coatings in commercial steel using Fe-based amorphous alloys, and to characterize these coatings with respect of the microstructure, mechanical stability in the interface, and hardness/wear. Several amorphous alloys will be evaluated, initially with the production of metallic ribbons by fast solidification via melt-spinning processing. The most adequate alloys will then be produced in the powder form by gas atomization and high-energy milling; coatings of the commercial steel will be carried out using thermal aspersion by HVOF (high-velocity oxy-fuel). The characterization of the coated samples will be carried out by X-rays diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Mechanical properties evaluation will be carried out by hardness and wear tests.(AU)
