Abstract

Traffic accidents are a major cause of hospitalization and death in Brazil, being surpassed only by cardiovascular diseases. Are considered a serious public health problem. It involves not only the loss of life resulting in problems but also high financial costs to the government. In 2007 expenditures were $ 130 million and in the State of São Paulo, more than $ 40 million from admissions were due to traffic accidents. Objective: to identify the spatial pattern of hospitalizations and deaths from external causes trauma in motorcycle accidents, covering the economically active population (20-49 years) in the State of São Paulo, from the years 2005 to 2009. Observe the proportion of hospitalizations and deaths of motorcyclists in active age in the general population and identifier the microregions that require priority in such intervention. Methodology: this is an ecological study and exploratory. The region analyzed consists of 63 micro-regions, state of São Paulo between 2005 and 2009. The analyzed region has a population of approximately 41 million inhabitants. Data were coded by ICD-10 were created and rates per 100 thousand inhabitants in the analysis. Population data were obtained from the Ministry of Health The spatial statistics used a georeferenced database of micro and technical analysis by area, yielding rates of Global and Local Moran by TerraView computer program provided by INPE.(AU)
