Abstract

The evaluation of programs and services as institutionalized practices and its values in matter of concern of the administration of public management, represents a challenge for those who concoct their studies and professional practice in this area. The demand for evaluation processes, especially on the field of public policies, and the gradual process of sophistication of its practices, methods and theoretical approaches, raises it as a theme of great relevance to studies endeavors and researches. From this perspective, this work seeks to conduct a literature review in the major academic databases of research in order search an analytic study of the evaluation field in Social Service area. In a wider perspective, this work is inserted to a survey conducted by the Advisor on the field of the evaluation of programs and services in Brazil. This task aims the articulation of knowledge of both areas, contributing to the development of a discussion of the possibilities, relations and the way the evaluation fulfills itself in the Social Service area, considering it as a professional attribution formally foreseen in its regular apparatus. How is the evaluation thought in the area of Social Service? Whether and how Social Service materializes the evaluative practices in its operation area and of what types? These are questions that permeate the reflection built to design the path that we wish to achieve in this work.
