Abstract

In recent years, important advances have been made in Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS), yielding a large number of associations between genotypes and complex human diseases. Genotype imputation has proved to be an important tool that can be used in GWAS, able to boost its power and facilitate the combination of results from different studies by means of meta-analysis. This piece of research aims at developing methodologies for the prospection of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers and the imputation of genotypes in GWAS based on data from resequencing of complex genomes. Different statistical methods for prospection and imputation will be reviewed and assessed, discussing factors that influence performance of imputation and association of tests in imputed SNPs. Genotype imputation addressed in this study adds to other efforts undertaken by the Animal Genomics Network Project of Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) to identify genes responsible for variations in economically relevant characteristics.
