Abstract

Technological progress has brought great development and alternatives to radiographic examination. Over the years, several digital radiography systems, that differ in forms of acquisition, processing, and management of the image, have emerged and been developed. Digital image processing, which consists of any change operation to improve, restore or analyze the image is attractive for the clinical user, but should be used with caution and should be avoided in the absence of scientific evidence that proves its efficacy. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of the Perio filter from the VistaScan radiographic system to determine the alveolar bone height. Thirteen dry mandibles, partially toothed and presenting bone loss higher than 2 mm, will be X-rayed using the VistaScan system. Two observers, by consensus, will measure clinically and radiographically the distance between the cement enamel junction and the alveolar bone crest. Images with and without the use of the Perio filter will be assessed. One-way analysis of variance for the type of process (clinical measurement and radiographic measurements - with and without filter) and Tukey test will be applied.(AU)
