Abstract

The University of Campinas (UNICAMP) started to offer from 2009 the bachelor degree on Manufacturing Engineering, in the School of Applied Sciences (FCA, Faculdade de Ciências Aplicadas) in the campus of Limeira. It is the first time that this formation is offered in Brazil. It aims to contribute to fulfill the demands of the national industry for engineers qualified to act in the manufacturing of different products, from its conception to its distribution, and including the critical analysis of the employed techniques and equipments. This set of skills, allied to the basic formation of the students in humanities and social sciences offered by the FCA, prepares the professional to approach in a conscious way the challenges of development and innovation, as well as technical questions related to manufacturing. In this study, the demands of the industrial employers for professional in Manufacturing Engineering will be analysed. The data obtained from interviews will be evaluated using a theoretical frame that will be elaborated from the specialized literature and from the comparison with curricula of universities of excellence of around the world. The main objective is to find elements that contribute with the understanding of the profile of manufacturing demanded by the industry. It is expected that the conclusions of this study could be used to the continuous improvement of the Manufacturing Engineering course of UNICAMP.
