Abstract

In the family, the interaction of parents with their babies is the most significant form of socialization and takes place by means of parental educational practices. The way parents interact and educate their children can promote socially appropriate behaviors or encourage the emergence and / or maintenance of inappropriate behavior. Studies are important because they can assess the impact of the presence of positive and negative parental practices in development of children. The present study aims to describe the development of babies at six months old relating it with the maternal parenting practices. Participants will be mothers of infants six months of age divided into two groups of 40 mothers in each. To collect the data will be used Inventário de Estilos Parentais para Mães de Bebês (adapted from Gomide, 2006) and for assessment of baby's developmental will be used Inventário Portage Operacionalizado. Group 1 will be composed of mothers whose results of Inventário de Estilos Parentais para Mães de Bebês will be 8 points or more in practice Monitoring Positive and less than 1.5 points on average in negative practices (Punishment Inconsistent, Monitoring Relaxed, Physical Abuse and Neglect). Group 2 will consist of mothers who submit 7,9 points or less in practice Monitoring Positive and with more than 1.6 points on average in negative practices (Punishment Inconsistent, Monitoring Relaxed, Physical Abuse and Neglect). The mean data in each of the practices evaluated by IEPMB will be compared between groups and related to the performance obtained by each group of infants in the five areas of development assessed by the IPO.
