Abstract

In 2008, by the Brazilian government's initiative, it was signed the treaty formed the UNASUR, an organization that aims to bring together all South American States into an economic and political bloc. In the same year, the South American Defence Council (CDS) was created in order to start the debate on security issues, a problem that States traditionally treated in isolation. The research's objectives are related to the CDS, its documents, and its first actions in order to explore the hypothesis that the Council and UNASUR are early initiatives of a possible regional security device attuned to safety issues raised by the society of control.(AU)
