Abstract

The new International Health Regulations (RSI), adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005, after ten years of negotiations, has played an important role in the field of sanitary cooperation in South America. The union of South American nations (UNASUR), established in 2008, created in the same year its South American Council of Health and in 2009 the South American Institute of Government in Health, which have shought to help member States to comply with the obligations established by the RSI. The project intends to analyse the relevance of the RSI in the configuration of a regional agenda of sanitary cooperation, as well as analyse how the regional mechanisms of health has improved the implementation of the RSI in the South American countries.
