Abstract

Bibliometric indicators are obtained from a practice counts in scientific databases and widely used for measurement of science and technology. However the lack of standard descriptive metadata checked in indexing documents in electronic journals, is a hindrance in the development of these indicators, it generates the need for standardization and / or correction of bibliographic data for them to become reliable indicators. In order to contribute to the primary research "Analysis of Brazilian and international research in the citrus sector from indicators of scientific production" (process n. 2010/13128-7), this project proposes the creation and standardization of descriptive metadata in lists fields authorities (institutions), locations (geographic aggregation) and the sub-areas of knowledge (subject categories) in publications related to the citrus sector. Due to its feature set, the WoS is traditionally used worldwide for the development of indicators in most studies of scientific evaluation. And this study will not be different: WoS was chosen for its known range and tradition in bibliometric studies. The methodological procedure is an exploratory-descriptive study using bibliometrics as a research tool. Some steps have been established to better deployment: a literature review to support the research, identification of the database, and standardization of data collection, organization and bibliometric treatment by VantagePoint software and ultimately subsidize the graphical analysis. Among the results of the research is intended to give greater consistency to the data, reduce time and operational work, as well as enhance and complement the methodological knowledge of the stock market, spreading them even to other members of the research group NIT / UFSCar.
