Abstract

In order to promote the oral health of usurers of removable dentures, it is necessary to develop effective and easy methods for controlling biofilm. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial action of an experimental dentifrice-based Ricinus communis against biofilm formed on the surface of resilient denture liner specimens. The antimicrobial activity will be assessed in relation to the other three dentifrices against specific microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis, Candida albicans, and Candida glabrata). The study will have a positive and negative control so that will be formed six groups totaling 210 specimens. Specimens of Mucopren soft resilient reline will be made from an acrylic matrix hollow (15mm diameter x 3mm thick), sterilized with ethylene oxide, contaminated by specified microorganisms for biofilm formation, brushed, washed, incubated in an appropriate culture medium, which will be sown in Petri dishes in order to verify whether or not the growth of microorganisms and counting the CFU.(AU)
