Abstract

The autonomic nervous system, through the balance of components sympathetic and parasympathetic, maintains the homeostasis of the organism, and virtually all human diseases are accompanied by an imbalance of that system. It is known that the parasympathetic component has anti-inflammatory action. Based on this aspect, the present study was planned with the following aims: to find in situations of exclusion of the vagal component, as is the case of Serra-Doria Operation (model used in this study) if there is a higher incidence of inflammatory, autoimmune or neoplastic events related to the gastrointestinal system when compared to the overall population or those chagasic patients not submitted to surgeries without vagotomy.(AU)
