Abstract

Neoplasias affect humans, domestic and wild mammalians, birds and fishes and their biological behavior, incidence, resistance, treatment and prognostic factors are variable between these species. The Comparative Oncology is the subject responsible for integrate the natural occurrence of animal cancer inside the general studies about cancer biology and therapy. Cancer registry is a system made for collect, administrate and analyze data from oncology patients. Registries are dynamics alternatives that stay in permanent evolution and possibly multicentric researches. Retrospective studies usually create some temporal and geographic bias for been limited for single hospital database and for collect the information in a long period of time. Veterinary cancer registries have existed in small numbers and have often been short lived and sporadic in nature. This pilot implantation project aims to elaborate the base for the first animal cancer registry in the Latin America, and probably the first in the south hemisphere. The standardization of information is fundamental to compare with Brazilian Hospital Cancer Registry, from human patients, and should agree with the other request forms from veterinary cancer databases spreads in the world. A central server going to storage all institutional information using a software that going to be developed during the project. The pilot implantation should occur in institutions representing veterinary hospitals, clinics and autonomous services, and the data collected going to be analyze for generate manager useful datas for a multicentric comparative approach and for improve the cancer diagnosis and treatment.
