Abstract

Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae), is one of the major pests of brassicas in Brazil and worldwide, causing serious damage on cabbage, cauliflower, kale and other brassicas common. The objective of this research is to study the reproductive capacity and preference for feeding and oviposition of P. xylostella created by several generations in the laboratory on three varieties of brassicas. Although there was some significant differences in the literature in the development and reproduction of P. xylostella in relation to different crucifers, and these differences were observed after the establishment of the pest in these substrates for only one generation. Therefore, studies are needed with the plague after its maintenance for several generations, so that we can study, the substrate supply really influences the preference of the herbivore. The results are expected to determine if P xylostella created by several generations in a specific cultivar can get Brassicacea conditioning, preferring thus the food substrate on which it was created. This study may provide important information about the pre-imaginal conditioning between plant and herbivore.
