Abstract

Conserve corn grains as silage can be a beneficial and economically viable strategy because it increases the starch digestibility, resulting in better performance and less nutrient loss. The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of maturation stages, the endosperm texture, physical and chemical characteristics and activity of the protein matrix in the grain for silage. Corn crop will be held in São Paulo Agency of Agribusiness Technology (APTA) in Pindorama - SP and sample analysis will be performed at the College of Agriculture Luiz de Queiroz- Department of Animal Sciences. The experimental design is the randomized block with factorial arrangement 2 × 3 × 5: two genotypes, three stages of maturation and five storage times, with four replications. The plot will consist of six lines of 5 m spaced 80 cm between rows. The samples shall be defined according to the dry matter (DM) of the plant or grain. As experimental silos will be used mini vacuum sealed bags. Will be evaluated nutritional value, physical characteristics, fermentation, proteolytic activity and digestibility of grain and silage. The protein matrix will be acessed by zein content and other reserves prolamins. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance and their means compared by orthogonal contrasts, using the GLM procedure of SAS. The variables measured more than once will be analyzed as repeated measures by the MIXED procedure of SAS.
