Abstract

In Brazil, children, teenagers and young adults are among the population groups most victimized by violence, which is the main cause of morbidity and mortality. The most frequent sites for the occurrence of violence are the street and at home, the school occupies the third place. This study aims to understand the meaning of school violence for students in urban public schools in Alfenas-MG, with the purpose of discussing the issue with these teenagers and encourage them to develop strategies for preventing and minimizing violence from their experiences. Trying to understand the aspects of violence seen as a complex phenomenon, the reference used is the Complexity Theory by Edgar Morin. This is a descriptive, exploratory and strategic study, from a quantitative and qualitative approach. The field study will consist of six urban public schools of high school in Alfenas located in the South of Minas Gerais, which account for approximately 2840 students enrolled in regular classes. Students from 15 to 18 years of those schools will be the study population. For data collection, will be used questionnaire, interview and study groups. The sample selection of students will occur as the method of proportional stratified sampling. In the statistical analysis, will be used frequency tables and Chi-square. For the analysis of the interviews, the reference used will be the Method of Interpretation of Meaning. All ethical principles to human beings will be followed.
