Abstract

Fluorescent compounds have been used for a long time in several fields of science, such as in analytical chemistry, spectrometry, physical-chemistry, microscopy and biotechnology and those compounds are widely used as molecular and cellular dyes. Although these compounds are known since the 1960's, only in the past 20 years the BODIPY-type chemosensors have been studied and applied and because of its photochemical and photophysic properties, it remains as one of the most useful tool for a vast number of research groups. After exploring the extense literature about it and the possibility of its usage on multiple fields of science, this project intends to synthetize pyrrolic intermediates with several substituents that will be used as precursors of diversified-structured BODIPYs. The synthesis of the BODIPYs will be performed through the coupling of two identical pyrrolic units, which are obtained by synthesis or commercialy, and catalized by TFA (in a symmetric synthesis) or through the coupling of distinct pyrrolic units using POCl3 (asymmetric synthesis).
