Abstract

This proposal is part of the ongoing Doctoral Dissertation project "Identidade na pluralidade: produção e percepção linguística na cidade de São Paulo" (Diversity and identity: linguistic production and perception in the city of Sao Paulo) (FAPESP Grant 2011/09122-6). It presents the objectives, workplan, and schedule of academic activities to be developed over a one-year period at New York University (NYU). In view of the proposed analyses -- the study of four sociolinguistic variables of contemporary Paulistano Portuguese --, of the tasks performed so far during the Doctoral research, of the excelence of the host institution, and of NYU's supervisor's experience, we aim at enhancing skills in developing sociolinguistic analyses, as well as acquiring broader international academic experience. The activities thus focus on the development of extensive quantitative analyses, on the interpretation of these results, and on participating in NYU's academic activities such as graduate courses and departamental colloquia.
