Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to evaluate the behavior and mechanical properties of dentin/ adhesive interface (d/a) of specimens degraded in Hanks balanced salt solution (HBSS), after 24 hours of restorative procedures (T0) and after twelve months (T1) using nanoindentation and finite element analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Five adhesive systems will be used (5 groups): SBMU: ScotchBond Multi-Purpose (Control), AEO - Adper Easy One; CSEB - Clearfil SE Bond; P90 - P90 Self etch adhesive; OUB - One-Up Bonf and for each adhesive system. 15 intact third molars will be used, 3 for each group (n=3). Each tooth will obtain at least 4 fragments of d/a interface in the mesio-distal direction. One specimen of each tooth will be used for SEM, with total of at least 3 specimen per group. After obtaining the specimen, it will be stored in HBSS. The SEM (JEOL - JMS 5400 Scanning Microscope, Tokyo, Japan) will be used to measure the d/a interface structures (hybrid layer, adhesive, dentin) dimensions and morphology, at 2 times: T0 - after 24 hours of restorative procedures; T1 - after 12 months of HBSS storage. RESULTS: The mean of the dimensions for each structure (hybrid layer, adhesive, dentin) will be obtained after the adhesive procedures for each group. The interfacial analysis and comparison will be assessed between groups and each time point of analysis. The descriptive statistical analysis will be performed to describe the results. (AU)
