Abstract The discussions about the technological revolution and its impact on industrial means of production fueled the debate about the practice of shared knowledge. If the traditional design uses closed models of production that are not shared, based on originality, and vertical manufacturing; the open process, driven by new forms of work (cognitive capitalism), new production models (digital manufacturing) and new economic values (knowledge economy), proposes a restructuring in these fields based on shared knowledge, collaborative creation, the processes of local production, the reduction of distribution and as a consequence of restructuring the business model itself. This process has been called Open Design and demonstrates a preference for the collaborative creation rather than originality. This thesis seeks to understand the Open Design by questioning: how to structure a design process based on sharing of knowledge applied to product development, taking into account new possibilities of organizing the creation, production, distribution and financial sustainability? The overall objective of this research is the definition of historical and philosophical foundations of the subject itself, understanding the structure and development of theoretical and practical model. For the stage of international studies, the goal will be to deepen the theoretical knowledge about the concepts of collaborative/commons and open source design (concepts widely studied by international profesor), check the dynamics of the Fab Lab Sevilla and transpose the practical data in theoretical document under the coordination of international profesor.
