Abstract

This proposal deals essentially with theoretical and practical aspects of dynamical systems, specially of those that give rise to attractors with a multiscroll structure. In essence, the main goal of the project is to investigate concepts and tools belonging to the fields of topological analysis and information theory in order to characterize the phase space exploration and the vector field evolution associated with this class of attractors. This investigation will gravitate around computational aspects of the design of associative memories using low-order complex dynamical systems and around the study of the processing / storage capacity of these systems. This line of investigation is complemented by an analysis of the possibility that the existence of chaotic behavior be useful to the process of building associative memories - which will be duly characterized insofar as robustness to noise is concerned. It should be remarked that this kind of memory has been shown to be an effective environment perception tool, as attested in biological experiments. Hence comes a second pratical perspective: to use multiscroll attractors to improve the perception capabilities of robots that must autonomously carry out navigation tasks.
