Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that afflicts over 250 million people worldwide. Among the patients suffering from DM, approximately 20-30% develop nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is characterized by the excretion of albumin in the urine, increased blood pressure, and renal failure. The objective of this study is to assess renal function and oxidative profile in DM rats (streptozotocin-induced) who underwent nephrectomy. It will be used Wistar rats, adult males (250-300g). The renal function of animals will be evaluated by the creatinine clearance and verification of proteinuria. The oxidative profile will be assessed by oxidative methods FOX-2 and TBARS.(AU)
