Abstract

The present Project has as the main objective to analyze part of the furniture collection of The Artistic-Cultural Collection of the Governmental Palaces of the State of São Paulo (Bandeirantes Palace, Boa Vista Palace and Horto Palace). For this matter, it will be used as a point of view the idea that the furniture is capable of telling its own history. The pieces will be the focus of all the research and the primary sources for information. The analysis will be divided in three stages: the first consists in a characterization of the pieces of the collection; the second will be a description of the social context in which the construction of each piece is inserted; and the last will be an analysis of the uses of this furniture since their genesis until the present day in the daily life of the palace-museums. Through this research we intend to work in direction of a wider propagation of the pieces that compose this collection and also a diffusion of the knowledge of furniture in Brazil, which is not very explored nowadays.(AU)
