Abstract

The companies which have their business on the Web provide a vast number and variety of products, services and information. These companies have the need to discover information about the behavior and interest of their users in order to recommend products, services and information which are relevant to them. However, the behavior and interest of the users are constantly influenced by their context. For example, a user might want to watch a movie with his girlfriend on Saturday night or with his friends during a Weekday, and a movie rental store on the Web may recommend different types of movies for this user, depending on his context. A big challenge to deploy context-aware recommender systems on Web sites is the lack of methods for automatic aquisition of contextual information. The main goal of this project is the research, proposal and evaluation of methods for acquisition of contextual information for context-aware recommender systems.
