Abstract

It can be said that there are currently several studies and publications involving the condition of the buildings in academia, but in the vast majority of them, the type of construction involved is one in which the structure is executed in reinforced concrete. With less emphasis, we still have some studies involving the pathologies of the buildings of wood and finally, quite succinctly, some research relating to steel constructions. As the steel material of quite different nature and characteristics of reinforced concrete and wood, it appears that some of the problems that arise when its use is quite specific. It is imperative to know how to deal with these problems in order to maintain the performance of any building at acceptable levels during its lifetime. But in our country, very little is known about this constructive approach, and consequently, the various problems that arise because of their use in construction, are often inadequately addressed and inefficient. This work aims to visually detect pathologies present and more frequent in two buildings (case study) with steel structures, located in the municipality of Presidente Prudente. As part of this proposal is included in the field survey with a photographic record of pathologies and presentation of general aspects of the pathologies identified in steel structures, will be subsequently established the probable causes of the pathologies identified in steel structures, as well as the analysis of the results will occur achieved. Thus, the number of detected events will be an indication that there is still much to be done in terms of quality and durability in the construction of steel-structured buildings. (AU)
