Abstract

Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a benign primary bone tumor aggressive locally and with high rates of relapse. Treatment modalities most commonly used today are extended curettage associated with cement filling, and en bloc resection followed by reconstructive surgery, but the indications for each treatment modality are not yet a consensus. Local adjuvant therapies, such as phenol, liquid nitrogen, or argon beam have been used. Objectives: to describe epidemiological aspects of cases of giant cell tumor treated in 25 years at IOT-HCFMUSP and compare functionally the results of various treatment modalities. Methods: epidemiological data will be collected from the anatomy and pathology sector and of records of patients with GCT treated since 1975. The various modalities of treatment will be evaluated through analysis of medical records, about the final outcome and complications. (AU)
