Abstract

The eggs production in Brazil demands a considerable value of electrical energy for illumination since that large producers prefer to produce in closed hangars where they can have better control of the process. Nevertheless, in general, the lowest prices and the market and production oscillations make the producers not always receive a great price for their products. Therefore, more efficient programs of illumination would reduce the production expenses determining an increase of profitability on the activity. So, the subject of this work will be the LED application on the illumination of sheds laying hens to increase electrical efficiency. To characterize the problem is important to remember that, nowadays, the sheds laying hens illumination is done by fluorescent or compacted incandescent. However, the intensity of this kind of illumination linked with the disposition of the lamps (lower uniformity on the illumination of the racks) causes stress, changes the productivity of the higher racks birds, and wastes electrical energy because of the nonuniformity illumination. The premise is that the LED technology on the artificial illumination on the laying hens will provide a better distribution of illumination on all levels of the cages in the racks and will reduce the electrical energy consumption. Therefore, the work will be divided into two stages, the first in a laboratory where the LED system will be developed and tested and the second where this system will be applied on a property to analyze the benefits related to the economy in the consumption of electrical energy and distribution of the illumination on various racks.(AU)
