Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate different restorative materials to superficial-dentin and their marginal adaptation in class I cavity. Methods: Round-shaped class I cavities (3 mm diameter x 1.5 mm depth) will be prepared in the oclusal surface of fresh extracted human third-molars, with margins located in superficial dentin. Four adhesive systems will be used and evaluated in this study; one two-step total-etch adhesive system (Adper Single Bond 2), one two-step self-etch adhesive system (Clearfil SE Bond) and two one-step adhesives (G-Bond, Clearfil S3 Plus), restored a with compiste resin (Clearfil Majesty Posterior) or a low-shrinkage composite with its proper adhesive (Filtek P-90, Silorane Adhesive System). The specimens will be immersed in water (24 h, 37°C) or thermal stress cycling (10000 cycles, 5°C and 55°C). Ammoniacal silver nitrate solution will be used to evaluate the marginal sealing ability and 3D scans (4 mm x 4 mm x 2.6 mm) of each restoration will be obtained using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). 2D images will be obtained from the 3D scans (n=15/group) and their marginal adaptation will be analyzed. Area fraction of pixels with high brightness values at the interfacial zone will be calculated using a digital image analysis software. Results: The results of marginal adaptation will be submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukey test for statistical analysis. (AU)
