Abstract

Progressive Muscular Dystrophies are a group of inherited genetic diseases characterized by progressive and irreversible degeneration of skeletal muscles. Therapeutics approaches have been tested aiming less progression of muscular degeneration and an increase in life expectance, one of them is cellular therapy. This therapy aims to revert or slow down the dystrophic process by repopulating damaged muscles with normal cells. In the dystrophic process occurs a loss of proliferation and differentiation capacity of the muscle's stem cells' pool, by the continuing muscle degeneration, thus the administration of new cell could revert this process. Besides the therapeutic success of mesenchymal stem cells in dystrophic models, recently findings in our group have showed an increase in survival of a dystrophic model when transplanted with pericytes. Therefore, this work aims to compare the therapeutic effect of mesenchymal cells and pericytes, from the same donor, in a dystrophic mouse model. (AU)
