Abstract

The visit's main objective is to follow a few of the experiments that will be performed in the project "Preparation of multilayered Structures of Superconducting Materials for Fast Data Streaming Applications". These experiments are intended to contribute to the development of superconducting wires called the Second Generation, which are also called "coated conductors". These are made from films deposited on metallic substrate, and the superconducting layer is made of Yba2Cu3Ox. The architecture can be quite complicated and generally are formed of layers of materials serving as a barrier to diffusion (buffers) having crystal orientation and a compatible structure with the superconductor film. These wires are already in very advanced stage in some industries abroad. However the application limit related to their ability to conduct electrical current can be further extended if the influence of the architecture and the thickness of the superconducting layers on the conduction properties are disclosed. For this reason, in this project the aim is to perform an extensive study of the YBa2Cu3Ox layers prepared with different thicknesses, different architectures matching with the buffer layers and different dopings. The analysis of the performance of the superconducting multilayers is made by transport measurements and will be compared with the properties of today ideal architecture. The deposition technique to be used is PLD (Pulsed Laser Deposition) but simple ones like dip-coating and inkjet deposition will be tested as well as. This project is being developed in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Alexey V Pan and is part of the doctoral work of student Anne Hitomi Yonamine, my student enrolled in the Graduate Program in Science and Technology of Materials-UNESP, a CAPES scholarship recipient, who is already at the Institute for Superconducting and Electronic Materials, University of Wollongong, Australia, since 2nd August 2012 and will be completing her internship in June 2013. This Institute has excellent laboratories installed in the new Innovation Campus and the aforementioned university research group is recognized worldwide for its achievements in the field of superconductivity.
