Abstract

This research intends to analyze the relationships of the members teaching Paulista and the League of the Catholic Professorate, in the context of public school teacher training and teacher associations in São Paulo, in the 1920s and 1930s. Its proposal relate to the production and performance of these educators and leaders to build public and secular school by the two moments of the insertion of the catholic movement in education: the period of intensification reforms of public education and the emergence of the League, from 1919, and during the implementation of the nationalization of education policy and the origin of the Brazilian Catholic Confederation of Education in 1933. The aim is to study the mediation and articulations that these entities between catholic educators; to identify the alliances that motivated the emergence of the League and ensured its legitimacy; to characterize the continuities of the catholic actions on the educational field, either in the ways of the teachers associativism or in the public education orientation in São Paulo and in the national scenario, during the so-called First Republic. There is still the glimpse, through this strategy, of the existence of a net of printings, bulletins, newspapers and catholic magazines that, produced by these entities, aimed at the regional and national circulation and were intended to orient the actions of the catholic educators.
